The Monster with Three Bodies, What Melody Does It Sing

The moments of steps turning azure. "When shall the time come?" The moment of becoming eager to melt into your breath silently, "What light was wandering around and hesitating under my breath and steps?", "What shadows do sneak inside the imaginary wall and ceiling made of the lights?" Those questions gather to comprise a place. Only asking over and over, without answers, full of answers, without right answers, only able to talk about the peace without right answers with just resemblances and differences, borderlessness of lights, forms, and sounds.
Glances arise from pupilless plants, voices arise where only gazes were, and verses soak where no utterances were. Leaning on those serenades flowing through, the exhibition presented by <MMOMSET> - originating from a monster with three bodies, and referring to the project group comprised of Sunghye Kim, Minha Yoo, and Myungsun Jang - generates a place nowhere to be seen but a part of the world. This movement is not static but is tucked, emerging, and recreated by passersby repeatedly. So to speak, you can sense the sounds here changing each time you take a step. When you come near the paintings, there exist sounds triggered by those fragmentary movements. The random fractions generated by sensors are naturally accepted as a part of a musical piece. Myungsun Jang's soundtracks, embodying the intentions of <MMOMSET>, aim to be intact but with fragments of eternity never to be completed. The soundtracks, played in the venue, consist of sound pieces of acoustic instruments and repeating melodies from synthesizers, which are three artists' or not. Utterances beyond borders only sustained with "Ah-" and "Woo-". Voices. Sounds of tides, waves, rains, and stones getting similar to the noise of machine through Audio-Effect. The dimming place, generated with spatial impression through ambient sounds, calls a visitor as an individual and the world, and calls them with a face of impossibility categorized as a way of antagonist to segmentation.
To rake in repeatedly emerging and fading fractions, dissolve borders, and draw new shapes with the collapsed. This is an attempt of depaysement to build our world by isolating the world from the world, and three artists of <MMOMSET>'s first pledge for this vain but firm imagination. The visitors will make their first steps to this world through sounds. What comes next is the flag pictures carefully suggesting corridors prone to be unpiled. On the wall seemingly blocking the road ahead waits the animated film which appears to be the passage to another continuing world. The artist who worked on the flag pictures, Sunghye Kim' s gesture is an arrow which tears down corners of the world. Sunghye Kim introduces herself with an interrogative question, "Will you believe in me, if I am a battle, an arrow, and a warrior?" Sunghye Kim identifies what she does as an act of "hunting, gathering, and drawing". Sunghye Kim has generated presences within absences, and absences within presences by gathering up shapes around and of herself. Sunghye Kim hereby seeks to be an arrow crossing edges of everything. The arrow becomes a red and blue light, and it tears down borders between a dense forest and a city. Urban trees are evolving machinery. There we get lost repeatedly and Sunghye Kim defines the blurry peace with piled getting losts as a present, or the world.
What draws a corridor on the edges of colors built up, and the wall blocking steps is the artwork of Minha Yoo that keeps the wall from being a wall. Minha Yoo drew a screen that reminds cosmic darkness, and it brings a rainbow without the sun nor rain. There are no winds in the outer space, but in the breezeless space, onto what do petals keep leaning? What cut across between a flower and a leaf are two individuals. They embrace each other through the black space where dots are engraved like white stars. Does the fluctuation of the embrace stir the dark nights without winds, and does it bring vivid colors to flowers and leaves to break the darkness? "Azure steps and nights of sadness", sung by Myungsun Jang as a 'diary', are brought to light into fluctuating plants through Minha Yoo' s heart. On a physical borderline within a place made of arrow like colors, three artists' minds are trying to reach beyond the border of the wall again.
Depaysement, meaning preposition or an avant-garde method, always subverts accustomed severances and reconstitutes borderlines which were forced upon us. If it is surely possible to give a birth to something or a process "beautiful as the chance meeting on a dissecting table of a sewing machine and an umbrella" as the surrealist, Comte de Lautreamont once said, what effects should those petit and small, but intense and glorious pursuits of depaysement be concluded as? What <MMOMSET> incarnates may be the world even connoting a fundamental doubt of 'inevitableness'. Sunghye Kim, Minha Yoo, and Myungsun Jang, and the intersection generated by all those visiting here. We refer to those waving things, and those existing for a moment as if they were alive, as the world. From this world the sadness of azure steps is flowing abruptly, and this is because the imagination derives from three artists' everyday and fundamental hopes entangled with us with a word of 'us'.
